How to Install Acronis Cyber Protect on an Dedicated Server/VPS

This guide walks you through installing the Acronis Cyber Protect agent on a Linux server or VPS that is not managed by GB Network Solutions.

Prerequisite: You must have already activated your Acronis account. If not, please follow the Account Activation Guide first.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

  1. Log In to Acronis Console

  • Method 1: Access the Acronis Console directly from the Client Area by click button "Go to Cloud Console".

  • Method 2: Access for the Acronis Console from login page

You may enter the login ID and password that you set when activating the account.

  1. In the console, go to All Devices and click the "+ Add" button.

  1. Choose your operating system from the list. For this guide, we will proceed with Linux OS.

  1. The console will begin downloading the agent installer. While the download is in progress, right-click on the download, select “Copy Download Link” from the menu, and then cancel the download (you will download it manually via the terminal).

  1. Paste the copied URL into a text editor (such as Notepad) and remove everything after “.bin” in the URL.

  1. SSH into your server.

  1. Download the agent.

Example:

wget https://sg-cloud.acronis.com/download/u/baas/4.0/26.3.42183/CyberProtect_AgentForLinux_x86_64.bin

(Replace the URL with your actual cleaned download link)

  1. Make the installer executable.

chmod +x CyberProtect_AgentForLinux_x86_64.bin

  1. Run the installation script

./CyberProtect_AgentForLinux_x86_64.bin

  1. A new installation window will appear; select “Agent for Linux” from the available options, then click “Next” to proceed.

  1. Click “Continue” to install the required packages for the Acronis Agent, then wait for the installation to complete, which may take a few minutes.

  1. Once the installation is complete, select “Show registration info” and copy the registration code by highlighting it with your mouse and pressing Ctrl + Shift + C (or right-click and choose “Copy”).

  1. Return to the Acronis Cyber Protect Console, go to All Devices → Add, scroll down, and click the “Register” button.

  1. Paste the registration code from Step 12, then click “Validate code” followed by “Next” to proceed.

  1. For the plan selection, you don’t need to apply any plan yet as it will be created manually based on your subscription.
If you proceed with the default plan, it may include additional features that you are not subscribed to, which could result in additional charges.

  • Simply click “Change” to proceed.

  • You can click “Do not apply” to skip apply plan.

  • Then, click the “Next” button to proceed to the next step.

  1. Next, click “Register” to complete the installation process.

  1. You have completed the Acronis installation; once the terminal shows completion, you may click “Exit” to close it. However, the setup is not fully finished yet, as the plan still needs to be configured manually.

  1. Select the machine, click the Protect icon, then click Create plan and choose Protection to proceed.

  1. Edit the plan name, adjust the backup retention (e.g., number of backups), then click Create to save the protection plan.

  • Here is the suggested retention that we recommend you apply.
